How to Choose the Best Wigs

If you’ve lost all or most of your hair(no matter what reason–chemo or genetics), you might want to consider a wig. But choosing a suitable one, there must be many things to be considered, hoping the following guide will enable you to select a wig that suits you.

1.) Choose the hair material, human hair or synthetic hair?

You need to decide whether you want to buy a human hair wig, or a synthetic wig. Human hair can look as realistic as real hair and can last much longer than synthetic wig, but need to be designed by your hairstylist according to your face shape, with also caring for it as well. Synthetic hair is simply much easier to style and care for because the artificial polymers hold their shape much better than real hair does, the price is also much cheaper than human material. All of these are things you need to take into consideration.

2.) Select the cap construction: Capless, Lace or Mono top?

After confirming the material, you need to choose the cap, now there are three normal constructions like capless (all machine-made), lace and mono top. Usually if you like synthetic material, capless will be OK. But for human hair, lace and mono top will be better.

Lace and mono top are all hand-tied. This gives the appearance of individual hairs growing from our own scalp, which is very natural looking.

3.) Measure your head–how do I know my head size?

The Secret of Managing Your Weaves

Wrap hair at night with a silk scarf and stocking to hold it down

If your weave is curly then braid 4 sections of the weave at night to ensure no tangling

If extensions are Indian Remy or top quality,aim to wash once a week.

If your extensions are Yaki or average grade of human hair irecommend not to wash at all, this is because cheaper extensions have a silicone coat over the hair so once you wash it, it will become very hard.

Remember that extensions, as well as they are done are never your real hair.

You must treat them with a lot of care and be very gentle.

Try to only style weave using heat maximum twice a week

When sleeping ensure closure piece is held down firmly, closure will flatten with time

As extensions have been cut at the track, a little bit of shedding is normal

Try not to pull your weave back into a pony tail too much or too tightly

At least once a week go through the rows of your braid base and gently apply moisturising hair and scalp cream

Don’t put any form of grease or oil on your weave. This will make it look cheap, synthetic and very heavy.

If your weave is curly then apply small amount of lotion in palm of your hands and rub all over hands so it’s a thin layer of product, loosely apply to hair to maintain curls

Full head weaves should be kept for a maximum of 6 weeks

Natural part weaves should be left for 5 weeks

Track Extensions should be re-done every 6 weeks, but if you want to keep them for 2 months just ensure the root is not tangling.

When removing weave get someone to do it so you’re not cutting your own hair

What Are Pre-bonded Hair Extensions?

Pre-bonded hair extensions are pieces of hair, real or synthetic, that have a bonding agent pre-applied at one tip. The extensions are used to increase the length and fullness of a person’s natural hair and can be cut and styled just like real hair. There are several types of these hair extensions, such as nail tip, rare remy nail tip, and stick tip. Each type comes in a variety of colors and textures.

Nail tip pre-bonded hair extensions are also called U-tip extensions. During the manufacturing process, bonding glue is placed at one end of the extension. A hair stylist attaches the glued tip of the extension to a client’s hair with a professional heat connector clamp. This clamp resembles a thin hair straightening tool and has a built in lip to place the glue tip into. The hair stylist squeezes the top and bottom sections of the heat connector clamp together and applies pressure to melt the glue, bonding the client’s natural hair to the extension.

Remy nail tip hair extensions are assembled so that all the hair cuticles are running in the same direction. This prevents tangles and keeps hair looking smoother and neater for a longer period of time. Remy extensions may also be more expensive when comparing prices to other pre-bonded hair extensions. These extensions are applied in the same way as regular nail tip extensions.

Stick tip, or I-tip pre-bonded hair extensions are also manufactured with the bonding glue at the end. This type of extension is different because of the way it is attached to the hair. A hair stylist uses small attachment devices called micro rings, micro loops, or shrink tubes to adhere the extensions onto the client’s real hair.

Micro rings and loops are small hoops that match the client’s hair color. The hair stylist clamps the micro rings or micro loops around the extension and the natural hair and then squeezes the ring tightly using a specially designed connector tool. The shrinkable tube method uses plastic rings that are applied in the same way, but are closed with a heat clamp to bond the plastic ring and the glue together.

The bonding agent most commonly used on pre-bonded hair extensions is keratin glue. This glue is formulated to prevent damage to the hair while providing maximum hold. As hair grows out, the glue can loosen and the extensions will need to be tightened or reapplied. Keratin glue is reportedly the safest glue to use for hair extensions. A hair stylist can remove the extensions with keratin remover.

Hair used by Goodyard is mainly from the hair market in Juancheng, hair city of China. In addition, Goodyard also purchases hair from other hair markets around the world. According to the sources, human hair can be divided into Chinese hair, Indian hair, European hair, etc.

European hair is very rare in the market. So the price is very expensive. Indian hair and Chinese hair are both Asian hair. It is hard to tell the difference. From the out looking, Indian hair has the natural wave, but Chinese hair does not. If you touch it, Indian hair is soft and thin, but Chinese hair is thicker. At present, Chinese hair accounts for 40% of the total hair output in the world.

There are two types of hair in the market, Remy hair and non-Remy hair. Remy hair is cut directly from the donor. Non-Remy hair or what we call fallen hair has fallen in the natural shedding process like washing and combing, and then been collected together. Unlike Remy hair, non-Remy hair is not healthy because fallen is a shortage of hair nutrition. It will tangle easily after several times’ wash.

Nowadays, the products made from Remy hair usually will be twice as expensive as those made from fallen hair. Thus, some people use non-Remy hair counterfeit Remy hair. How can we distinguish Remy hair and non-Remy hair? As non-Remy hair is fallen naturally so there will be hair follicles which you can see clearly by eyes. Remy hair is cut from the head, so no hair follicles exist. Besides, after several washings, Remy hair would keep good smooth and soft, but non-Remy hair would get tangle and shedding badly.

How to salvage a tangled cosplay wig

Most people discard a cosplay wig when it has become damaged or tangled. This is unnecessarily wasteful, especially if a kanekalon wig is thrown away. So, let’s focus on methods of salvaging tangled cosplay wig made from high temperature fibers and kanekalon bellow.

First, let’s look at a tangled cosplay wig. Just as the photo shows, it’s rather jagged and fluffy. There are knots of about 10 centimeters away from the top.

It will be difficult to comb it without using some type of hair detangler. So, add a little hair detangler and grab a small section of the hair with your left hand. Use your right hand to comb the hair using a steel comb or an anti-static comb from tips to root.

Do not instantly, resort to using scissors, if you encounter a knot. First, run your fingers over the knot, attempt to smoothen it. If it becomes smooth, just pull it and comb it with a steel comb.

If it does not become smooth, use your fingers to quickly drag small knots to the tips. The knots should be as small as possible. Then, cut at the middle of each knot; don’t pull the hair once cut. Use steel combs to comb it once again until all cut knots are pulled from the wig and adhere to the steel comb.

When encountering a group of, do not use scissors because these knots will easily form while handling a wig. If you cut the wig frequently, the wig will have less depth. Instead, separate the smooth hair to one side of the wig and the group of knots to the other side of the wig. Then, comb the wig upwards, about 10 centimeters above the knot several times, using some force until the knot combs smoothly.

Repeat above two steps as needed. In most cases, hair is tangled and has knots, however you can deal with these utilizing the above two steps. After removing all knots, wash the hair. Flush water while combing. Then, allow the wig to air dry.

If possible, use an electric hair flat iron, which is the only tool to smooth jagged end. Before clipping, comb several at times and hold the top of the wig with one hand to avoid it hanging freely. Grab small section of hair with the other hand and slowly flat iron the hair from roots to tip. Use a little force for a smoother look and to evenly distribute the heat.

And there you have it; a tangled cosplay wig made from high temperature fibers has been restored to the original shape.

This will create the finished look, the tips of the hair are no longer tangled and frizzy, instead you now have soft and silky, tangle-free hair. Spray a bit of hair detangler and store the hair into a hermetic bag until the hair detangler dries.

Remy or full Cuticle Hair means that the hair has all cuticles healthy, intact and all cuticles flow in the same direction from the root to the tip. Typically hair is of remy quality when it has been collected directly from a woman’s head and has been cut while held in a ponytail, so none of the hair strands fall to the floor. Because of the careful collection process, only Remy quality hair can guarantee that all cuticles will stay aligned and the hair will be tangle-free hair in its most natural form. True remy hair lasts for a long time, can be reused several times, and can be colored or flat ironed with heat just like one’s own natural hair.

In contrast, non-Remy or other hair types are made from hair collected from the floor of temples, salons and door-to-door brush hair collection. Due to these types of collection methods, cuticle directions are always mixed up, causing inevitable tangling problems. To minimize tangling problems, many vendors treat the hair with special chemicals to strip off the cuticles completely and then apply layers of silicone coating over it to bring back the sheen. Unfortunately, after such treatment the hair initially looks and feels good and it is difficult for consumers to detect if it is non-remy hair just by touching or feeling it.
