Techniques of Human Hair Wigs

Different hair knotting methods can produce many different results. The quality of the wig and its workmanship will have a great impact on the finished look of the wig and this is especially the case for human hair wigs. After receiving your order, the manufacturer will discuss its feasibility with the technician. If there are not any problems, your order will be arranged, and the necessary materials such as hair and base material, will be prepared and then, produced by our skilled workers.

Our wig quality controller in the factory will check the quality and accuracy according to your order details. Before the shipment, QC will recheck the merchandise and complete volume production results to develop the human hair wigs.

Human Hair Wig, as all hand-tied wigs, are becoming more and more popular because of its soft and comfortable cap material and high quality knotted workmanship.

There are usually two main types of and knotting methods to attach hair to the wig cap, double knots and single knots.

Double knotting of the human hair wig is the most widely used technique in the current market. With double knots, the hair is attached securely to the cap and this avoids shedding. However, its disadvantage is that the knots are somewhat visible, so double knotted techniques are usually used on the top and back of the wig cap only.

For the front hair line area, single knots are more popular. Single knots are hard to detect because of its petite knot. However, as it is only one single hair knot, the hair is inevitably prone to to shedding. To combat this issue, we typically increase the density of the hair at the hairline to ensure there is adequate hair volume and create a more natural look.

International Salon and Spa Expo (ISSE)

The International Salon and Spa Expo is the most famous beauty show in west of the United States. It attracts millions of visitors each year from all over the world. But it is only available to licensed stylists, cosmetologist, teachers and students. ISSE offers hundreds of educations and competitions and also shares the latest trends with everyone at the same time.

There are two separated halls at ISSE. One is for hair products suppliers and another is for skin care products suppliers. The exhibitors are all top grade companies and have to be the member of the PBA. They are well known in the local market. Their networking with thousands of local salons and stylists make their business steadily increase over time.

Not like visitors at Cosmoprof North America Exhibition, most of the visitors are small salon owners and stylists. That means they are not very sensitive to price because their order amount would be at a low level. Compared with wholesalers, the stylists are more professional to the hair quality and colors.

Most of the visitors at ISSE are Caucasian. So the light colors work very well at the show, especially some bright shining colors. They are very picky and sensitive to colors. More color options, much more better. Without any question, ombre color, piano color and mixed color are still the most attractive colors at the show.

1. Selection of Raw Hair

Hairs of the highest quality are sourced from different areas. Natural hair is usually shaved from women’s head and tied as a single piece in different lengths. Hairs in different lengths and sizes are assorted, segregated and sold at different prices. Careful selection needs to be done to procure the right type of hair. Only our skilled technicians are under the responsibility of this process.

2. Arranging Hair & Hackling

The thickness percentage of the hair depends on the style and maintenance of the person who offers the hair. Some women prefer to have long hair and some have a mix of long and short hair.

By arranging the hair, we ensure that the head of the hair is even. It is further hackled to remove crude and unwanted short size hair before sending it for washing. The short hair and all unwanted hair are also removed in this process. The top and end of the hair should be arranged in the same direction only when it is remy hair. The different sizes are segregated before sent for washing. Hair loss in this process is between 5 – 10% of the total weight.

3. Washing & Coloring

The arranged hair is soaked in a solution of conditioners and detergents to remove the dirt, oil and other dust particles. The soaked hair is then washed in water several times until it is clean.

If the hair needs to be colored, skilled workers will use dyes or natural process to get the color that the customer requires. Colorful dyes can be made into thousands of colors by our coloring workers. Colored hair needs to be strictly checked to make sure. There is no difference with customers’ requirement.

4. Drying

Sunlight is essential for proper drying. Our sun dry the washed hair for several hours to make sure the hair becomes soft. During the rainy season, we may use the heater to dry. Though sun drying makes for almost 10 – 15% of weight loss after washing, it is easy to identify the texture of hair after proper drying.

5. Stocking

The dried hair is stocked in racks of different sizes for further process like wefting, hand-knotting, etc. These are also known as ready stock and this is what is available at any time. From this inventory, hair is selected for any other process. The total weight loss from the purchase of raw hair until this stage is around 30% or even more.

Lace Closure Application Guide
1. Regardless of whether you want to install a lace closure hair on sew-in or glue-in weaves, tracks will be needed for the weft of the closure.
2. Complete the process of sewing in or gluing in hair extensions to tracks or cornrow braids of natural hair.
3. Clean the skin around the outer edge of the hairline with rubbing alcohol.
4. Make sure that you leave a U-shaped portion of cornrow braids on the crown of your head. This is what you have to install the Swiss lace closure.
5. Apply a thin line of adhesive. Keep in mind that a little bit of adhesive is enough. Gently press it down until it is secured. Alternatively, you can use a dark colored sewing thread and C-shaped needle to attach the lace closure to the U-shaped section of tracks.

Different Types of Wigs Cap Construction

There are many ways for wigs to be constructed to cover the entire scalp. Different clients choose different types of wigs taking comfort, breathability and appearance into consideration. The main types of wig cap constructions are as follows:

Capless Cap, Traditional Cap, Lace Front Cap, Mono Crown Cap, Mono Top Cap/handtied, Full Lace Cap, Mono Top/Wefted Back, and Skin Top Cap.

Capless Cap and Traditional Cap belong to capless or machine-made cap, which is very common in synthetic wigs and has a relatively lower cost. Lace Front Cap, the popular cap construction in recent years, adopts front lace handtied workmanship and can achieve the effect of a natural hairline. The dimension of lace can be custom designed. The common type for the black has the dimension of 13″x3″ while 5″x1.5″ for the white. With more human labor involved in using the hand tied workmanship, the price is much higher than the capless cap and traditional cap.

Full Lace Cap,100% hand tied workmanship, can reach a more natural wearing appearance. The common types include full lace, full lace with elasticized net, ear to ear full lace with elasticized net. Since 100% hand tied, it needs a longer production period, usually fluctuating from 20 to 30 days.

Mono Top Cap is common in wigs for patients. Mono(monofilament) refers to a cap material similar to lace with smaller meshes and smooth surface. It is usually transparent skin color and mainly used on the top of head, which can create the illusion of hair growing from the scalp. The back part of Mono Top Cap can use machinery made or handtied workmanship and the front part can add some lace. Mono Top Cap has various of compound modes. Mono crown and mono part are actually derived from traditional mono top with the dimension of hand tied area reduction, which cannot only decrease the cost but also more comfortable wearing and natural looking.

Skin Top/ Silk Top Cap is widely used for Jewish wigs and creates and unbelievable real look.The silk top lace wig has French or Swiss lace around the perimeter and the top of the crown contains a piece of silk (usually 4×4 or 5×5 in.), through which individual hairs are injected. The knots are hidden under the silk base and are not visible, giving the illusion of hair growing directly from your scalp.

What is a Toupee?

A toupee is an extremely popular hair product that is usually worn to disguise a bold spot on the head. It is easy to wear and requires no surgical procedures. Only by special hairpiece tape or bonding adhesives need to be used. There are many kinds of toupees including men’s toupee, hair and women’s toupee. However, the most common one is primarily used for men, since it is men whom mainly suffer the problem of hair loss. Therefore the toupee is the best available solution for it.

Differences between the Toupee and a Wig

Usually a wig is designed to cover the entire scalp of the wearer and should blend in with the natural hair color and style of the wearer. Wigs can be used to demonstrate a new appearance and hairstyle which could be removed from the head by simple operations. The toupee is a one of a kind hairpiece. The main function for the toupee is to reveal the look of a full head of hair even though hair loss has been suffered.

The application of the toupee is much more complicated than that of the wig. An adhesive is used in order to hold the toupee in place. The key point of the toupee is to match the wearer’s natural hair as closely as possible. Just like wigs, human hair, synthetic materials and animal hair are available materials for the toupee. Just like wigs, human hair is the best quality and it is better to turn to a stylist to attach the toupee to the scalp. Removing it only when a replacement is needed.

How to apply a Toupee?

1 Clean the scalp by rubbing alcohol or witch hazel to remove natural body oils. Use witch hazel if you have dry or sensitive skin.
2 Apply the liquid toupee adhesive or toupee tape around the edges of the inside of the toupee. To apply liquid toupee adhesive, use an applicator brush to apply a thin layer of the adhesive to the edges of the toupee. Place a towel down under the toupee to prevent the adhesive from getting on counters. To apply toupee tape, stick the tape around the edges of the toupee and smooth the tape down. Ensuring that the tape does not stick out past the edges of the toupee. Once the tape is securely in place, remove the protective backing from the tape and apply.
3 Hold the toupee over your head and find the place where the toupee will sit.
4 Press the toupee down on your scalp and hold. Wait for the glue to dry or tape to stick in order for the toupee to stay in place.
5 Style the toupee as desired.

7. Twist your existing hair into a bun if you are using a ponytail with combs. Place the opening of the comb ponytail over your bun and tightly stick the combs into the hair on the back of your head. For extra hold, use bobby pins to secure the combs.

8. Once ponytail hairpieces are attached, work your hands into the hair so that it flows and combines with your own hair to create a natural look.
