The first step in the hair replacement process is choosing the best system for the coverage needed. However, since different types of hair replacement options such as a “wig,” “hair piece,” and “toupee” are often used interchangeably, it can be difficult to tell the difference between them and even harder to know which system may be best for you.

Here is a brief explanation of three common hair replacement systems, as well as the coverage each is designed to provide.

Wigs: One of the oldest hair replacement systems, evidence of wig wearing dates back several centuries and can be seen in artifacts recovered from ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. While wigs/wiglets have evolved since then, the concept of a wig being made of real (human or animal) or artificial hair and intended to cover the entire scalp has stayed relatively static.
Typically wigs are removed each night by the wearer and not worn during certain activities such as bathing. Wigs are also often used as part of a costume and several famous actors, musicians, athletes and other celebrities such as Britney Spears, Andre Agassi, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj and Cher have popularized the wearing of wigs for both theatrical or everyday purposes.

Hair pieces: In contrast to a wig/wiglet, hair pieces are designed for various kinds of coverage. Hair extensions, toupees, head-wraps, and bangs are all types of hair pieces. The coverage of a hair piece depends on your needs. For instance, Complete Image Hair Design offers hair pieces that are customized to each client and can fill in thinning hair or cover an entire scalp.
Whereas a wig usually is taken off at night and during other activities by the wearer, a hair piece can be crafted to be more durable, allowing it to stay on while sleeping, showering, exercising, etc. Wearers of these kinds of hair pieces, such as those provided by Complete Image Hair Design, typically do not remove it themselves, and instead return to the provider for adjustments and touch-up’s as needed.

Toupees : A toupee is a type of hair piece intended to cover baldness on the top of the head. This partial hair piece is usually held in place with two-sided special tape or liquid toupee glue and blends with existing hair on the sides and back of the head. Typically men use toupees more than women, due to the coverage needed for male pattern baldness.

Hair loss becomes a big problem among us nowdays. But do you know how to avoid or solute hair loss problem ? Read this article .

Load up on beauty nutrients.

Though we think our hair is super important, our bodies consider it nonessential . Other bodily functions, like breathing, are more pressing and get first access to the nutrients in our diet. Our hair gets the leftovers. Protein is your hair’s best friend, so reach for healthy protein such as eggs and fish and avoid fasting or yoyo dieting. These can deprive your body of these essential building blocks for a healthy scalp and hair. Wild salmon, tuna and trout are packed with omega-3 fatty acids that help provide moisture and prevent dry and brittle hair. Foods rich in B vitamins also help keep hair follicles healthy, decreasing the risk for hair loss. Fruits and vegetables, and beans and lean meat sources, such as chicken or turkey breast, are all great sources for vitamin B.

Manage stress

Too much stress is bad for health and beauty, but did you know there’s a known connection between stress and hair loss, too? Constant stress can cause cortisol levels to spike, which can contribute to increased hair shedding. To relieve stress and its damaging effects on your hair, try meditation, regular exercise, keeping a regular sleep schedule, or any other activity that helps you decompress.

Take care of your scalp.

The scalp is where each hair follicle receives its blood supply, allowing it to grow strong. If you show your scalp a little TLC and make sure it’s nourished, hydrated and healthy, then your hair will be stronger and more resistant to breakage, promoting healthy growth. Foods packed with vitamin E, like almonds, walnuts and raspberries or strawberries, are great for promoting scalp circulation, as are vitamin C-rich foods like kiwis and broccoli. Walnuts also are a great source of zinc—zinc deficiency can cause shedding—so they’re extra powerful.

Try biotin supplements.

Results from several small studies suggest that biotin supplements may improve thinning hair and brittle nails. Less commonly known as vitamin H, biotin is part of the B complex vitamins, which help your body metabolize fats and protein. Some experts even recommend a daily supplement for everyone since it’s generally safe and pretty hard to get too much of it.

Get your hormone levels checked.

Age-onset thinning, or “miniaturization,” refers to a progressive decrease of the hair shaft’s diameter and length. This happens at least in part because of androgens like dihydrotestosterone (or DHT), a derivative of the male hormone testosterone that causes hair follicles to literally shrink in diameter. This type of hair thinning is referred to as androgenic alopecia, and it occurs in an equal pattern all over the scalp. However, pregnancy, ovarian cysts, medications, emotional or physical shock, and birth control pills can all affect hormone levels, making it complicated to pinpoint the reason for hair loss. For example, polycystic ovarian disease can exacerbate androgens and manifest as thinning, in which case you could treat the condition and fix hair loss. Get your hormone levels checked to see if an underlying health issue is the root cause.

Try a new style.

Playing around with your haircut can sometimes mask the issue, so talk to your stylist about a style that will add volume and bounce, making hair appear thicker. Simply shifting your part can work wonders, and changing up your color can help, too. Light reflects more off lighter hair, so the color provides less contrast between the hair and the scalp, concealing any empty patches. Additionally, a light perm or wave will give hair more body and make it look thicker, and frequent trims will help prevent breakage.

Cut back on hot tool use.

Speaking of a new style: Don’t choose one that’s so high maintenance that it needs to be heat styled daily—the damage you’ll do with too much hot tool usage can leave strands damaged and fried, and breaking before it can grow to a certain length. Plus, thinner hair tends to break easier, so you want to avoid any extra damage-inducing practices at all costs. Make a conscious effort, too, to brush more gently, and use a moisturizing and reparative hair mask to hydrate hair and nourish the scalp—where hair gets most of its strength.

Lovely Gal, June Penny, has made a new youtube video to talk about her favorite human hair topper for this new season.(Video s here )

If you guys follow June’s Youtube Channel, you will know June has been wearing the Hair Topper to conceal the thin hair all the time due to her hair loss issue. And during this whole summer time June has chosen to  wear the Charleigh Wavy Hair Topper. When the fall has come, June would like to have her straight hair back so she has decided to put on the Charleigh Straight Hair Topper instead of the wavy one.

In that video, June said the Charleigh Hair Topper is one of her favourite hair toppers, because of its 6” *6” Base Size, which can provide more coverage over the scalp than regular 5” * 5” Hair Topper. And its curved base is meticulously designed to fit the shape of human crowns. June is also a big fan for these toppers with 3 parting, since you can have the left part, the right part or the middle part freely. In the Video June also suggested that you should plug some hair along the parting line in order to have the natural looking part when you first receive the hair topper.

Closures, for those who are unfamiliar, are special hair units in which individual hair strands are attached (usually hand-tied) to a piece of material, most commonly lace or silk.  The base material normally comes in different colors – beige or brown – and some companies offer specialized color matching services in which the material is selected to match the skin color of your forehead exactly.

Closures are sold in various sizes, most commonly three inches wide by four inches deep.  The purpose of a closure is to allow the wearer to have a full sew in (or wig) with none of their hair left out but still have the flexibility of being able to wear a part with the appearance of scalp showing.  This is the exact same technology as a lace front or lace wig.  When the closure is attached to your braided hair (or wig) you are able to part the closure in any direction.

Now that we all understand what a closure is, lets discuss the differences between a Swiss lace versus silk base closure.  Both allow the freedom of a full sew in, without leaving any hair out and the ability to part the hair in any direction.  However, there are advantages and disadvantages to both.

Swiss lace closures have strands of hair hand-tied to the lace, which looks like a piece of netting or mesh material.  It allows your scalp to breathe and gives easier access to your hair beneath to clean, condition and moisturize effectively.   The knots created from the hair being tied to the lace often create small black dots along the parted area, which most people believe to be extremely unrealistic.  Some ladies bleach these knots to bring them to a light enough color that they appear invisible, while others (like me) simply cover them with concealer that matches their skin.  Most often Swiss lace closures are the cheapest option.

Silk base closures use a silk overlay to attach the hair and may be custom ordered to match your skin exactly.  There are no visible knots, so the resulting parts give an extremely realistic finish as if the hair is growing out of your scalp directly.  Because the material is not netted as in Swiss lace closures, the braided hair beneath is not as accessible.  If you sweat excessively or have scalp issues (dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, etc) then this may not be the best option for you.

Skin based closures are an even newer, third option. The polyurethane base simulates your scalp, and it appears as if the hair follicles are actually coming out of the base, similar to the silk base closures.  The difference is that silk base closures are often offered in varying colors while most skin based closures simply offer a universal translucent base.  However, the polyurethane material may be more durable than silk.

Hopefully this post helped you understand the differences between the various types of closures.  They are an investment and meant to be reused over the course of many installations, so think of them as a one time purchase.

Once you want to buy a lace closure, you might be puzzled :how can I know which size being fit on me?

Here, I will introduce you one way that you can measure the size that is most closed to the size you need.

As known ,most of the wigs or clousers maders use the inch ruler,so you’d better get a inch ruler. You can get the size step by step as follow:

  1. Find the center point of the place that you want to cover on your head of head;
  2. Put the “0” on one of the edge where the zone you want to be coverd, let the ruler cross the point that you find in step 1 to the other edge, record the number ; repeat the step on the left edge, record the number too. After above step, you have got two numbers.
  3. In order to cover the area naturally, you might plus half inch to the number you had recorded.

Then, you can contact to the seller which you have choosed, tell them the

size and the color and another texture you have confirmed.

The steps that I wriiten as above were told by one of the Uniwigs Designers who is called Rose.

I have tried the method for times,It’s a good method,so I am very sincerely to share it with you,Thank You!
